Penshurst Place

Penshurst Place is a grand Tudor house in Kent.

We drove about an hour through the country to get there. I felt like Dorothy opening her door into the Land of Oz. We were seeing this familiar landscape in color, for what felt like the first time since last September. It was so vibrant, the greens and blues. Most trees were still bare, but the daffodils were out as if promising that the rest of the leaves and flowers would be on their way soon.

Walking through the house mainly meant keeping Esme from running into suits of armor and pulling tapestries off the walls, so we tried to speed through as quickly as possible. But the gardens were lovely and expansive. And there was a bonus playground for kids. Esme went down a big slide and Penny sat on grass for the first time--when we set her down, she raised her limbs as far off the ground as possible to keep them from touching the foreign stuff. Her ability to balance with her legs up in the air was impressive--then she whined and cried until we picked her up. If springtime means having to sit in the grass, Penny isn't so sure about it. The rest of us are all for it, though!

Wow, another incredible place I want to visit. It amazes me still that people actually lived in places like this.

So many lovely unique places to enjoy. I expect Penny will learn to roll around on the grass and have a delightful time.
